Product Description:

Newborn calf serum is the most widely used natural medium in cell culture. It is rich in nutrients essential for cell growth and performs critically important functions. Serum contains amino acids, vitamins, minerals, lipids and other nutrients required for cell growth, as well as hormones, growth factors and binding proteins that promote cell growth, such as insulin, hydrocortisone, dexamethasone, bFGF, EGF, PDGF, and transferrin. In addition, serum also detoxifies, buffers and inhibits protease activity, protecting cells from damage.

Newborn calf serum is collected from healthy newborn calves 14 hours old that have not been fed or given water, from non-epidemic areas. Blood is collected aseptically via the carotid artery and by cardiac or venous puncture, then pooled in large batches and 3-stage 0.1μm filtered and aliquoted. The product is sterile, mycoplasma-free and free of specific antibodies. Typical supplementation ratio: 5-20%.

Culture of continuous cell lines, large-scale cell culture and vaccine production.
